Fridge dates are food-safety limits from FoodSafety.gov. Freezer dates are for best quality only: food kept frozen at 0°F stays safe indefinitely, but its taste and texture fade. Spoilage bacteria you can smell aren't the ones that make you sick, so when in doubt, throw it out.
How to use this calculator
- 1Choose the type of food, give it a label, and set the date it was cooked or stored.
- 2Choose fridge or freezer and tap "Add to my list".
- 3Your list is sorted with the soonest-to-expire first, and turns amber or red when it's time to use or toss.
Tip: Your list is saved only in this browser on this device.
How it's calculated
Expiration Date = Preparation Date + Safe Storage Duration Days
We do the math at full precision and only round the final answer, so the numbers you see are as close as kitchen measurements allow. The assumptions and limits are listed alongside.
Worked example
Scenario: Cooked beef chili on October 10th.
InputsOct 10 prep date + 4 days fridge duration.
CalculationOct 10 + 4 days = Oct 14th recommended consumption date.
ResultConsume or freeze by October 14th
