How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the amount of liquid.
  2. 2Pick the unit you have (for example fl oz) and the one you want (for example mL).
  3. 3Read the result. Use the swap arrows to go the other way.
Tip: Fluid ounces measure volume, not weight. 8 fl oz of honey weighs much more than 8 fl oz of water.

How it's calculated

mL = fl oz × 29.5735; Liters = mL ÷ 1000

We do the math at full precision and only round the final answer, so the numbers you see are as close as kitchen measurements allow. The assumptions and limits are listed alongside.

Worked example

Scenario: Convert 16 fluid ounces to milliliters.
Inputs16 US fl oz
Calculation16 × 29.5735 mL = 473.18 mL (exactly 1 US pint)
Result473.18 mL

Common questions

Is a fluid ounce the same as a weight ounce?

No. A fluid ounce measures space, a weight ounce measures heaviness. For water they are close (1 US fl oz of water weighs about 1.04 oz), but 1 fl oz of honey weighs about 1.5 oz and 1 fl oz of oil about 0.96 oz.
